In spite of arrests and church closures, with much prayer and fasting native Christian workers shared the gospel in both broadcast recordings and personal discussions as they planted several home fellowships. One worker visited a man dying from a liver disease. After he lay hands on him and prayed, the man left the hospital 11 days later completely healed, and he and 35 relatives put their faith in Christ. A Muslim sheikh (Islamic teacher) who asked for prayer for his lame leg also received healing prayer and accepted Christ. Donations are sought for such gospel work. Pray the Lord’s protection over workers, and that He would free Christians on trial for their faith.
Help Care for Orphans and the Poor in Chad
Impoverished orphans and children whose parents are too poor to care for them have recovered their lives through a native ministry’s orphanage, which provides them schooling, three meals a day and health care. Another native ministry assists 100 poor, abandoned or orphaned children with education, food and medical care, in many cases also providing maize or rice for their families. Donations of $35 or $70 are sought to provide such care and other compassionate aid. Pray that the Lord would touch lives in a way that breaks the cycle of poverty.

Working in a strict Muslim country, native Christian workers had the experience to safely share the gospel with many people as they visited 21 villages last year, 10 of them previously unreached. They planted 91 secret house churches, each with five to 10 members, in 12 villages. They also had opportunities to share Christ in sports activities and humanitarian outreaches. “Many villages have been affected, and many have found salvation by accepting Jesus as Savior,” the ministry leader said. “A great light has enlightened minds in many villages.” Workers need donations for such gospel work. Workers request prayer for protection and an end to drought.

Many times a church pastor had shared the gospel with the hard-drinking, womanizing husband of a member of his congregation, though the man showed no interest. When the 42-year-old merchant had a heart attack, the pastor organized congregational prayer during his 10 days of hospital care. Continuing to share Scripture and pray for him after his recovery, the pastor led him to Christ. The man stopped his prior habits and has led two of his friends to faith in Christ. Native Christian workers need donations to share the gospel with such people and provide biblical grounding for growth. They request prayer for the salvation of more souls and the planting of more churches.

Drought devastated the country last year, and native Christian workers helped hungry people to survive, providing thousands of liters of clean water and bags of dry corn, along with corn flour, beans and cooking oil, among other foods. This year many are again hungry as Kenya suffered its sixth straight failed rainy season, and native ministries are again meeting the needs of desperate people with the resources available. “Many folks are in dire need of food, as one region has received little rain, and others not even one drop yet,” the leader of one ministry said. A 40-year-old woman confined to a wheelchair since she was 4 years old had suffered sexual abuse as a child and lost her parents when she was 15. She was homeless when native workers met her and led her to Christ. “She could not believe that there are people who genuinely love her, minister to her and show her the right path,” the ministry leader said.

Prison officials were deeply relieved to see native Christian workers bring inmates soap, bleach, disinfectants, medicines, mosquito nets, sleeping mats and drinks, and they immediately gathered the prisoners in the courtyard to hear the gospel. They listened intently, and soon hard faces began to soften, eyes reddened, and one inmate cried out, “I am guilty – this man is telling the truth, God help me.”
